Last weekend I got to do a couple hand tattoos based on the song “The Righteous and The Wicked”, I used the classic tribal patterns and roses from the cover for my design.  Thanks to Cory for sitting so well, he didn’t flinch once!

#1 – Fucked Up – Lights Go Up/Let Her Rest/Queen of Hearts
Lights Go Up, the epic conclusion to the equally epic David Comes to Life.  A bit softer than Fucked Up‘s usual sound, it follows other punk greats like Fugazi, in that you don’t have to scream to get your point across.  Lyrically the song sums up the themes of the album, the last verse is written like it should be a drawn-out Bat out of Hell-esque conclusion, but Damian sings it with an urgency, almost like “holy shit, we survived this story”

It’s the morning again at the factory, someone will meet me there and rip me out of my dream, Warm my blood before I say goodbye, a new sun in the sky and love will never die.

Brilliantly, the song ends with the Sonic Youth-y guitar distortion that ties the album together and fades back into the albums opener, the beautiful instrumental Let Her Rest.

A true “concept album” makes it near impossible to listen to a song and not the following one, thus listing these tracks as one.  Let Her Rest sets the stage for the mind blowing anthem Queen of Hearts.  The guitars intertwine like The Clash, and the vocals recall Black Flag, a perfect introduction to the saga, and punk rock history lesson of David Comes to Life…
